Police Documents in Currier Case Released

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

The Vermont Supreme Court has released dozens of pages of, until now, sealed police documents related to the killing of an Essex couple.

Friday's release includes search warrant applications and inventories of items taken during several searches.

Those were related to what police have said is the abduction and killing of Bill and Lorraine Currier.  They haven't been found and police have not named any suspects.

The documents offer a small glimpse into what has been a secretive investigation.  While there is no major breakthrough, there are small pieces that could help police and prosecutors build their case.

The searches included the Curriers' home in Essex, their car that was found a short distance away, and a nearby dumpster.

In the home, police say they found a kitchen door window broken, a crow bar, and a cut phone line.  While police say there were no signs of a struggle, they found a red stain in the bathroom.  They also detailed the type of gun Lorraine had and was missing.  Police say it was ruger snub nosed .38.

In their car, the search warrants show police collected lots of little things, from pine needles to hairs. Those things that could help police link the car to the killings.

And as for a search of a dumpster near the car, police say they didn't find anything.

The police papers did not get into the searches of a demolished home in Essex and a landfill in Coventry.

Prosecutors and police fought the release.  They said there was information in the documents, that if released, could hurt the case.

The Vermont Supreme Court disagreed.
