Group Formed to Educate Teachers and Students on Bullying

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

With another school around the corner, educators are uniting to put an end to bullying.

Harassment and cyber bullying have exploded on campuses, across the country.

A recently formed "Harassment, Hazing and Bullying Prevention Council" wants to better educate staff and students on the issue.

Teachers and principals want to look closer at strategies that work.

They also want to give students the skills to be better allies for each other.

"Give students an alternative in terms of behaviors that are acceptable so that they have a safe learning environment and can succeed in school and in life," Tracey Tsugawa, from the Human Rights Council, said.

The advisory council also wants teachers to intervene, immediately, once they're aware of a problem.

The first meeting is at the end of the month.
