BURLINGTON, Vt. -
A Parkside rental agent was imprisoned Tuesday for fraud.
According to a press release, James Pumpelly, 65, of Lake Charles, La., was sentenced to 24 months for pleading guilty to two counts of fraud. He previously resided in Barre, Vt.
Back in February 2009, a federal grand jury in Rutland returned a 5-count indictment charging Pumpelly with embezzling money from a federally-funded program, theft of Government money, bank fraud, and travel fraud.
The press release states that starting around October 2007 and continuing until January 2008, instead of paying the profits over to the landlords, Pumpelly diverted rent money to himself and his former girlfriend and owner of Parkside, Julie Clemons.
In addition to serving his time in prison, Pumpelly is ordered to serve a three-year term of supervised release and pay restitution of slightly more than $300,000 to the 30 victims of his crimes.
