Illegal Synthetic Drugs Found in Local Smoke Shop

Posted: Updated:
BARRE, Vt. -

It's been just days since synthetic marijuana officially became illegal.

That means all of the tiny bags labeled potpourri or incense had to come off of the shelves. We broke this story Monday and told you about the Fired Up smoke shop still selling illegal drugs.

Barre Town Police made the new law clear to the owner, but when officers returned Wednesday to double check, the drugs were sitting in the back room. Police say they didn't know how to get rid of all of the packets because they're now illegal.

The Barre City Chief is helping with the investigation and says the side affects are far different from marijuana.

"A lot of these chemicals don't have that mellow factor that you see with people on marijuana, so you're seeing people that are jacked up, they're anxious, they're nervous," Barre City Police Chief, Tim Bombardier said.

Because the law is so new, the store is not facing consequences.
Police confiscated all of the drugs.
