BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Byung Lee, 30 of Pennsylvania didn't say a word Wednesday as he stood in a Burlington courtroom.
The man dressed in a hospital gown, pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor charges stemming from a bizarre series of events in which police say he crashed his car into eleven other vehicles.
Police say Lee was speeding big time on Pine Street and lost control Tuesday night.
James Gero heard it all from his apartment.
"It's a miracle that nobody got killed," said Gero.
Gero grabbed his camera, and snapped photos.
He says Lee seemed scared by the large crowd that gathered, and then, all of a sudden Gero says Lee jumped from his car.
"As soon as he got out of the car it was like a football scrum and the firemen were the first guys to take him down before the police got there," said Gero.
In court, the defense argued Lee has never been in trouble before and should be released.
"There's no history that suggests that's his typical behavior," said Lee's attorney.
Unimpressed, the judge set bail at $10,000.
He also wondered why lee tried to smoke more weed, even as firefighters tried to save his life.
"The behavior borders on the bizarre in the manner of which this allegedly happens," said Judge Brian Grearson.
On Pine Street, the damaged cars have been removed, but debris remains.
Gero is still trying to comprehend how something like this could happen.
"I'd say it looked like the demolition derby," said Gero.
Amazingly only one other person had to go to the hospital.
She was treated for bruises and is at home tonight.
Lee will be back in court next month.
