ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -

(AP) - Officials in Vermont are on the lookout for a 27-year-old man who ripped off his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled his transitional housing a week after being let out of prison.

Officials say James Hollenback stepped outside the building in St. Johnsbury on July 10 to have a cigarette and never returned.

The Caledonian-Record  reported that Hollenback was released from prison on July 2 to continue serving his sentence in the community. He was required to wear a GPS electronic monitoring device to track his movements.

Hollenback pleaded no contest in May to simple assault and admitted to violating probation in exchange for a sentence of up to 30 months after being charged with choking another man during a fight over $40 in St. Johnsbury last December.
