PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
The three men who are arrested in a Plattsburgh meth bust were charged with Class D felonies.
Plattsburgh city police were glad they shutdown a dangerous drug operation before anyone was hurt but the drug creation process was still underway when they arrived. Police and special responders had to take special precautions to handle the situation properly but they say that it's something they're getting used to.
Police raided the meth lab at Eleanor Way and Hamilton St. Tuesday while they say Aaron prim, Jamie Gaudette and Kristopher Peryea were still cooking a batch of methamphetamine
"All that had to be completed, test what the byproduct of what that was. That gives us the illegal compound which allows us to charge them with the crime," Plattsburgh City Police Lt. Scott Beebie said.
One day later all three now face charges of unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine.
"Everybody's safe, there's no injuries everything's decontaminated it was a very good process for us to be involved with," Lt. Beebie said.
The emergency response team has since cleaned up the unit.
A command unit was brought to the scene Tuesday so that state police specifically trained in dangerous and illegal drugs could handle and test them in a air tight machine. It's something police have to bring out a little more often as police in this region say meth busts are on the rise.
"We never saw these ten years ago. Now we're seeing this," Lt. Beebie said.
On July 13th police raided a motel in Keeseville. Lt. Beebie says this is one of half a dozen meth busts in about as many years and that they often string together.
"This one worked out for us so it's onto the next one onto the next one. And most likely what happens is we get one then we get leads to go other places," Lt. Beebie said.
