BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Three strikes could mean, life in prison for a New York man accused in the Burlington stabbing.
FOX 44 and ABC 22 News first told you about this story Monday about a man who was stabbed in the arm while doing laundry. Witnesses say the stabbing was over a scorpion tattoo.
Chaty Register, 43, says he complimented the man on his neck tattoo and how much it cost. Register told police the man cursed at him.
Video surveillance shows Register reaching for his knife several times before stabbing him in the arm.
According to documents, Register confessed, but then pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Register is a habitual offender who has been in the criminal justice system for 23 years and there is evidence to back this newest crime.
"The physical descriptions matched and bloody clothes were found inside the defendants residence, " Scott Willison, Deputy State's Attorney said.
Register is being held without bail, pending another hearing scheduled for next week.
