Electrical Companies Want You To Conserve Energy

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Let's talk about this heat wave! Utilities are hustling to meet your needs, with the ever-increasing demand for A/C!

Vermont Electric Cooperative is actually encouraging its customers to try conserving energy between 2 and 6pm; that's when demand peaks.

Burlington Electric and Green Mountain Power are asking the same, but say the grid is not a worry right now, but there is a plan in place should these 90 degree days keep up.

"Peak power is not only expensive power, it's dirty power. We really encourage people to try to do their part," Mary Sullivan of Burlington Electric said.

To keep strain off the grid, close the doors so the air conditioning doesn't escape, turn off lights, and don't use major appliances until after six.
