Vermont Early Primary Voting Begins

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Although Vermont's state primary is more than a month away, you can vote now.

Starting Monday, Vermonters can fill out an early primary ballot and avoid lines you might see during the actual date.

The actual primary isn't until August 28th.

This gives people on vacation or working during the day, the ability to vote ahead of time.

State leaders say it doesn't help them figure out the winners any time faster.

"The ballots are counted the same time normally. If they are the machine ballots they have to they have to go through the machine the time that they're opened on Election Day and put through the machine," said Secretary of State Jim Condos.

Ballots can be picked up in each town clerk's office, or you can request one by mail.

If you haven't registered, and want to vote in the primary, you have until August 22nd.
