Work Begins on the Morrisville Bypass

MORRISVILLE, Vt. -

It's been nearly 40 years in the making.

A project to reduce traffic congestion in one rural Vermont community is finally underway.

Plans for the Morrisville bypass truck route were on display Thursday.

The $25-million dollar project will take traffic from route 100 to 15, without having to go through downtown Morrisville.

Transportation leaders say this wasn't an easy task.

"The scooping here done back in the 1970's. A lot of engineering. A lot of permitting. There were a lot of property owners that were impacted, where we had to acquire rights of way from both commercial and residential properties," said Vermont Highway Safety & Design Engineer Kevin Marshia.

Construction begins next week and should be completed by the fall of 2014.
