Vermont Camp Owner Catches Thieves Stealing Her Kayaks

ENOSBURG FALLS, Vt. -

Kathleen Bovat was on a mission Friday.

She was determined to let everyone who lived near her know what happened Thursday night outside her Enosburg Falls, Vermont campsite.

She even called our station for help in this task.

"I saw our security light on and I thought, why would our security light be on," said Bovat?

As Bovat drove closer she saw people take off in a red truck.

"As they blew past me, I saw our kayaks," said Bovat.

Bovat went into the backyard she noticed three kayaks were gone.

"Could it be someone we know? Could it be someone that we've had as a guest? I mean all those horrible thoughts go through your mind," said Bovat.

After calling 911, Bovat noticed a ton of cigarettes in her drive way and learned from neighbors someone in a red truck had been watching her place.

With the 4th of July holiday, friends and family were in town and Bovat didn't think to lock up her boats but now she says there will always be a lock there.

State police say they're investigating the incident.

They say it's a good thing Bovat didn't catch them in the act or chase them.

A point she agrees with.

"Though we wanted it to be sooner, it could've been bad for us," said Bovat.

Now Bovat hopes the thieves get caught.

"I just want my boats back," said Bovat!

Even if Bovat says they just dump the kayaks back in the yard.

If you have any information about the stolen kayaks call state police at 802-748-3111.
