Burlington, Vt. - The Red Cross is in desperate need of blood donors.
The organization says severe thunderstorms in the Washington D.C. Area caused hundreds of people to pass up donating. And with continued power outages, more blood drive cancellations are expected this week.
Also, Red Cross staff say, nationally, there have been 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June.
Now, the organization is trying to make up the slack.
"We set a goal for these two weeks of about 8300 units of blood, which is about 10 percent increase over what we would have expected," Red Cross spokesperson Carol Dembeck said.
