EAST POULTNEY, Vt. -
Vermont State Police say 79-year-old Gertrudes Alwardt was killed by her adoptive son in East Poultney Monday.
Police say 49-year-old Roderick Geronimo was arrested and will appear in Rutland County District Court for a charge of 2nd degree murder Tuesday.
While not saying exactly how Alwardt died, police say Geronimo "used physical violence" to kill her. Police found her unresponsive after a 911 call Monday afternoon. Police say Alwardt later died at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
