PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
New York State Police say a man went into a bank, threatened he had a gun, and walked out with money in the Town of Plattsburgh Monday.
Police say it was a pretty brazen robbery. It happened in the middle of the afternoon, on one of the busiest roads in the Town of Plattsburgh.
In the sky and on the ground, police launched a massive search after a report of the bank robbery.
"We saw cops with rifles walking into the store. Pretty scary scene because we don't see this in a small town," says Molly Lafountain, who stood near the bank.
Police say the target was the NBT Bank on Route 3. That's where Annette Bernard says her daughter is a teller.
"And seven months pregnant. So a little worried but they're telling me she's okay," says Bernard.
Police say around 1:00PM the man went into the bank, demanded money from the teller, and was able to get away with cash.
New York State Police Captain Robert Lafountain says the man did not show a weapon but passed a note saying he had a gun.
Police say they setup road blocks and had dozens of officers searching for the robber.
"We have had some sightings and we are investigating those sightings at this time," says Lafountain.
As police searched, Bernard waited outside the bank for her daughter, who she says she is okay with her continuing to work there as a teller.
"She's level headed. This is a small town and the odds of this happening again are not good," says Bernard.
Police say a surveillance picture captured the robber.
They say he is a black man, six-feet talk, and large build. Police say he was wearing a shirt or sweatshirt with the word "lucky" across it, khaki shorts and white sneakers.
