Vermont Gas Prices

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Some motorists are fuming over gasoline prices above $3.60 a gallon for regular in most filling stations in northwestern Vermont. That's well above the $3.40 or so per gallon in other parts of the state.

Truck driver Maryann Lynch of Milton tells the Burlington Free Press that there are always differences of 5 or 6 cents in the price of gas across Vermont. But the 20 cents per gallon leap makes her angry.

Joe Choquette of the Vermont Petroleum Association says there are several possible reasons for the higher prices in Chittenden, Franklin and parts of Lamoille and Washington counties.

For one thing, he says northern Vermont's farther away from terminals in Albany, N.Y., which would explain why prices are generally lower in southern Vermont than in northwestern Vermont.
