Summer Health Tips

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Summertime, and the livin' can be unhealthy, unless you wash your fruits and vegetables and cook meat thoroughly. That advice from the Vermont Health Department comes as prime cookout season gets under way.

The Health Department says summertime is prime time for food-borne illness, and is urging simple steps to avoid any such problems.

Among the tips: Use a meat thermometer to make sure the insides of hamburgers have reached at least 160 degrees before serving them. Rinse fruits and vegetables under running water before preparing them. And never put cooked meat on the same plate you had it on when it was raw.
