The Vermont Agency of Agriculture is reminding campers and others not to move firewood more than 50 miles from where it was cut.
The agency's Emilie Inoue says tree-killing insects and diseases can be spread in firewood, potentially devastating forests as well as the sectors of the economy that rely on forest products.
The agency is helping to produce a new public service announcement that will be shown on television throughout the summer.
