THETFORD, Vt. -

A teenager apparently struck by lightning while working at a Vermont farm over the weekend has died.

Thetford Academy notified students and parents that 16-year-old Connor Cook died Wednesday. He spent days in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

The Valley News reports Cook was one of several field hands working Saturday at Crossroad Farm in Post Mills. The farm had radioed workers to come inside after thunder was heard in the distance, but Cook was struck before taking shelter.

Cook was a promising athlete who played soccer, participated in track and field and led his junior varsity basketball team to a winning record during his sophomore year at Thetford Academy.
