Man Accused of Embezzling From Elderly Mother

Posted: Updated:

St. Albans, Vt. - A son accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from his elderly mother, is facing charges.

40-year-old David Clark and his girlfriend, Tabitha Ducharme, pleaded not guilty to charges including embezzlement in Franklin County Court, Monday.

In May, police say they started looking into Clark, who at the time was in charge of his 73-year-old mother's finances. Her caretaker told police that the elderly woman did not have heat back in October because Clark had not followed her gas payment plan for her Colchester home.

The caretaker also told police that Clark had given his mother no more than $200 in two weeks for her expenses. That is when, police say they launched an investigation revealing that Clark and Ducharme took more than $8,000 from the woman. To make matters worse, the caretaker told us that Clark's mother has Alzheimer's.

Clark and Ducharme both told police they used some of her money for personal expenses including gas and cigarettes. They face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
