ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. -

State police say speeding likely played a role in a one-car crash in the Adirondacks that killed a teenager who had just graduated from high school.

Troopers say a 19-year-old man lost control of his vehicle late Saturday night on a road in the Essex County town of Elizabethtown. The car overturned and hit a tree before coming to rest on its roof.

Police say 18-year-old Nicole Baker of Standish in neighboring Clinton County was partially ejected and pinned under the car. She was pronounced dead at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. The Press-Republican of Plattsburgh reports that she graduated Friday from Northern Adirondack High School in Ellenburg.

The driver and another 18-year-old woman were injured. They were treated at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. and released Sunday.

The crash remains under investigation.
