Vt. Fish and Wildlife Seeks More Control of Lands

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

(AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking more power to control activities deemed incompatible with hunting, fishing, trapping and wildlife viewing.

At its June meeting, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board approved a rule would that apply to public activities on more than 133,000 acres managed by the department. To take effect, the rule must be approved by three separate votes.

In a release, the department did not say what types of activities would be considered incompatible with the other uses. The proposed rule regulates activities on the land with particular attention to those activities that may be incompatible with other uses.

Public hearings on the proposal are scheduled for Aug. 21 in Montpelier and Aug. 23 in Castleton.
