Vt. Defense Contractor Buys Another, Saves 40 Jobs

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

(AP) - One Vermont defense contractor is buying another, a move that officials say will save 40 jobs in Newport.

The offices of Sen. Patrick Leahy and Gov. Peter Shumlin announced that Essex-based Revision Military has finalized the purchase of MSA North America's ballistic helmet business.

Revision, which makes military eyewear, says it plans to preserve the 40 jobs that were thought to be in jeopardy at MSA in Newport as that company prepared to exit the military helmet business.

Leahy says Revision had been looking to expand into the helmet business, and that with skilled helmet makers in Newport, it's a good match.
