Vt. Couple Saved in Waterfall Rescue

WESTMINSTER, Vt. -

Rescue crews have saved a Vermont couple that plunged down a waterfall on the Saxtons River.

Police say 20-year-old Hunter Dwinell Jr. and his wife, 25-year-old Amber Dwinell of Bellows Falls were fishing in Westminster near Twin Falls on the river Tuesday. Amber Dwinell went into the water and lost her footing and her husband went in after her.

The Eagle-Times reports the two struggled to grasp onto the slippery rocks, but the current sucked them over the first set of falls, a 20-foot drop. Another couple could see them and called 911.

The Windham County Sheriff's Department responded, stabilizing the Dwinells using a rope. Two officers wedged themselves onto the rocks to hold them in place. They were eventually rescued by the fire department. They suffered minor cuts.
