The Vermont Lake Monsters opened their season against the Tri-City Valley Cats out of Troy, New York in Burlington Monday.
Since last season, the team has spent a million dollars to fix things up around the ballpark.
One of the first things you will notice is the new video board in left field. It's big - 27 feet by 16 feet. During games, you'll see close shots of all the action.
Also new this year: better lighting, a new clubhouse, and improved field conditions.
The Lake Monsters says this was possible after the team signed a twenty-year lease with UVM earlier this year.
"You know with a year to year lease, it's tough. You don't know where you are going. Now that the 20-year lease has happened, we know we're going to be here, sinking some money into it, making it better for the fans, making it better for the players and it's going to be great experience for everyone involved," says Nate Cloutier, Lake Monsters' general manager.
In total, the team expects to have to spend millions more to bring the ballpark up to professional standards.
