WINOOSKI, Vt. -

One man is behind bars and another is in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest. But witnesses say the one who's in jail acted in self defense.

It all started Saturday night at a graduation party in Winooski. The two men involved know each other and witnesses say the whole fight started over a woman.

"It's just jealous rage, that's what I think it was," neighbor, Pauline Anderson said.

It's obvious something violent happened here, the sidewalk and street were covered in blood.
Police say 22 year old George Mnyonge and 28 year old Agwik Aguier who's also known as Jackson were drinking alcohol at a graduation party at a house in Winooski Saturday night. According to neighbors, Mnyonge and Aguier dated the same girl, and she's the reason behind the jealous rage.

"It's like a big cesspool of sex. Sex and alcohol and violence," Jasmine Jamenez said.

Police say a fight started between the two men, it was broken up, but they say Mnyonge then left and called four of his friends. When they arrived, they followed Aguier who was walking home and a second fight began.

"The 22 year old did jump the 28 year old," Jamenez said.

Neighbors say the fight started near the home but ended down the street, there are still remnants of blood.

"Every time he breathed, the blood would come out of him," Jamenez added.

Neighbors say the man who was allegedly attacked was defending himself when he stabbed Mnyange. "He was fighting for his life," Anderson said.

At some point during the fight, Aguier pulled out a knife and stabbed Mnyonge through the chest. "Jackson was scared, he was already injured, this kid was on top of him and he pulled the knife and he stabbed him out of fear, it was self defense, he didn't wanna hurt that kid," Jamenez said.

Both men were taken to the hospital. The man who was stabbed is in critical, but stable condition. The other was charged with aggravated assault and is currently in jail.

Police say they still haven't been able to recover the knife that was used. Anyone with information is asked to call Winooski Police.
