MONTPELIER, Vt. -

(AP) - Vermont moose hunters have until July 5 to apply for permits, which will be awarded by lottery.  Lottery applications are $10 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. The state is also auctioning off five permits to the highest bidders.

Winners must purchase resident hunting permits for $100 or nonresident hunting permits for $350. The state is planning to issue 385 moose hunting permits by lottery for the regular Oct. 20-25 moose season and 50 permits for an archery moose season Oct. 1-7.

Applications can be found at the department's web site. Printed moose applications are available at license agents, but officials encourage people to use the online application.
