Vt. Wind Project Fares Well During Big Storm

LOWELL, Vt. -

A report by a state official says the erosion control system for a 21-turbine wind power project under construction in Lowell suffered minor damage during a storm that dumped more than 5 inches of rain on the mountain within a few hours.

The report by Kevin Burke of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation says a total of 5.4 inches of rain was collected by gauges on Lowell Mountain during the May 29 storm.

There was some damage, including a blocked culvert, along the construction roads that lead to the top of the mountain where the sites where the turbines will be located are being prepared.

But Burke says given the intensity of the storm the site held up well.

Project owner Green Mountain Power says repairs are being made.
