BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Twenty-five burglaries in 2 weeks. That's how many, Burlington Police say, they have seen since June 1st.

Most of them occurring in the Hills section and south end of the city.

Police say, the culprits are entering the homes through open doors and windows. People are also physically breaking in as well.

Jewelry, cash and electronics are the most popular items that have been stolen.

"From my experience and from one of the individuals we arrested recently that told us directly that it's related to their drug addiction," Deputy Chief, Andi Higbee, of Burlington Police Department said.

Police are telling residents to lock your doors and windows during the day and night. If you know anything about the recent string of burglaries to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802)-658-2700.
