Westfield, Vt. - An unlikely family has formed out of some sad circumstances.
Last July, we covered the disturbing story of six abused horses in Jeffersonville, Vermont. In January, the horses were rescued from their own who was arrested for cruelty to animals.
Since then, the horses have been recovering, transforming from skin and bones to happy, healthy mares.
Last month, Keith and Kim Flynn have been caring for two of the horses, sisters named Bell and Amy.
At his job, Keith Flynn, Vermont's Commissioner of Public Safety, has to be tough on crime. But, he certainly has a softer side with Bell and Amy, referring to them as his babies.
"We knew we had this barn and we didn't have any other animals. So, we thought this would be a great opportunity to help some animals that really need some help and be able to give them some of the things that they don't have," Flynn said.
The other four horses are also in the care of foster parents. The case against their owner is still pending.
Bell and Amy were given to the Flynns through PETS of the Kingdom. To find out how you can help their cause click here.
