Vt. to Subsidize Bus Service to Brattleboro

Posted: Updated:
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

The state is going to subsidize Greyhound bus service to Brattleboro and other locations in southeastern Vermont to avoid an interruption of interstate bus service to the communities.

Greyhound announced last week that it was going to suspend service to a number of communities between Springfield, Mass., and White River Junction.

Vermont Agency of Transportation Public Transportation Administrator Barbara Donovan says it would have been an inconvenient time to lose the Greyhound service in the area.

She says the state is completing a study about intercity transportation needs that will enable officials to develop a more comprehensive transportation plan.

Donovan tells the Brattleboro Reformer the subsidy is based on the number of miles and riders and she could not estimate the amount the state would pay.
