BURLINGTON, Vt. -
A rainy weekend could impact big events in our area.
Organizers had hoped thousands of people would check out the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival and the Special Olympics Vermont Summer Games.
In South Burlington Friday, hundreds of Special Olympic athletes paraded in for the opening ceremonies of the Summer Games.
Special Olympians will compete in four different sports. Athletes might be ready and so are organizers, if the weather cooperates.
Special Olympics Vermont CEO Lisa DeNatale says a little rain won't stop the competitions but severe weather could.
"The plan is we will move some indoors or just post-pone for awhile and hopefully the storm will pass," says DeNatale.
The Burlington Discover Jazz Festival started Friday and jazz artists played outside. But organizers say on Saturday some of the outdoor shows have already been moved inside.
"We are prepared for all eventualities being in Vermont and it being June," says Geeda Searfoorce, festival associate director. "You roll with the weather and whatever it gives you it's kind of great and I think it doesn't diminish our spirits in any way because the music is such an enlivening force that it brings this amazing force to the city."
The Jazz Festival is taking a wait and see approach with other outdoor performances.
