BARRE, Vt. -

Fire crews cleaned up a fire at a 3 story apartment building on Elm Street in Barre, Vt. Thursday morning.

According to the Barre Deputy Fire Chief, there were 9 residents in the building and a few pets. Everyone got out safely.

A press release says, a tenant of the apartment was alerted by a 10-year-old child on the first floor who heard smoke alarms going off and woke up other people in the building.

Five departments were called in to fight the fire and they were able to put it out quickly.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. This is the 4th fire in less than 48 hours in the city. On Tuesday, crews responded to 3 homes being hit by lightning.
