Some Vt. Police Phones Out, But 911 OK

MIDDLESEX, Vt. -

Much of the non-emergency telephone system used by police, a sheriff's department and two fire departments in northwestern Vermont is back in service.

A component at the Williston State Police headquarters failed temporarily keeping those numbers from working.

The numbers for the Williston Barracks, Richmond Police,  St. Albans Barracks, Swanton Police, Middlesex Barracks, Waterbury Police, Berlin Police and Warren Fire are back up and functioning correctly.

The outage still affects callers trying to reach the administrative numbers for the Grand Isle Sheriff, Underhill/Jericho Fire Department,  Lamoille VSP and Northfield Police.

Officials say the 911 emergency phone service is working properly.

Alternative numbers are still set up for the following agencies.

Alternate Phone Numbers:

Underhill Jericho Fire Department     802-899-5195 (or call 878-7111)

Lamoille VSP Outpost                        802-878-7111

Grand Isle Sheriffs                             802-372-4482 (or call 524-5993)

Northfield Police                                802-485-9181 (or call 229-9191)

An alternative number available for any of the above agencies, should the primary lines be busy, is (802) 585-6134

Police say these numbers should be used for non-emergency calls to these agencies. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Communications Center Supervisor Rich Kelley says the system should be fully repaired after technicians receive a replacement part, expected Monday.
