Vermont State Parks Are Open for the Season

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. -

Memorial Day may be the unofficial start to summer, but it sure felt like the real thing today.
With temperatures in the 80's, people flocked to the state parks that are now open for the season.

Niquette Bay State Park in Colchester allows dogs to run and play leash-free, so it draws a pet-friendly crowd.
But it wasn't just the four-legged friends who braved the lake water, several children were swimming in Lake Champlain as well.
Mom and daughter Emmy and Jennifer Wheeler say areas like Niquette Bay are one of the many reasons they enjoy living in Vermont.

"You're never too far away from a hike in the woods, or a swim in the lake, or just getting away, but close," Jennifer Wheeler said.

There are 51 state parks spread across the state of Vermont... they'll be open through Labor Day.
