Burlington Man Sent to Jail After Knife Chase on North Street

Posted: Updated:

A Burlington man will spend up to a week in jail after police say he chased a man with a knife and threatened to kill him.

Wesley Alexander, 51, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault Friday in a Burlington courtroom.

Police say Alexander got into a fight with a man who wanted to drink at his mother's home on North Street.

Police say Alexander chased the man with a large knife.

"My mother is 74-years-old. The issue was that I believe she was making an irrational decision," said Alexander.

"According to officer Cannon, specifically said, if he went to jail for this case, when he was released, he was going to kill him," said prosecutor Scott Wilson.

Because of that comment the judge ordered Alexander to be held without bail.

If convicted, Alexander faces 15 years behind bars.
