Vermont utility regulators have approved a plan to ship parts for 21 industrial wind turbines to a Lowell Mountain construction site where they will be installed.

The Public Service Board approved a plan by Green Mountain Power to ship the turbine parts by rail to Island Pond and then by truck to Lowell.

The board says the plan to ship the parts by rail to Island Pond will save an estimated 17,000 miles of truck traffic.

GMP officials say the first trucks are expected to start rolling the week of July 16.

The Caledonian Record says officials expect to move four to five loads a day during the work week through mid-September.

The project is due to finished by the end of the year.
