Vermont Library Gets Grant for New Bookmobile

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. -

(AP) - The remote Northeast Kingdom region of Vermont is getting a new bookmobile.

The area's old bookmobile, operated by the Cobleigh Library in Lyndonville, stopped rolling last winter, falling victim to age and budget constraints. The bookmobile, essentially a library on wheels, delivered books to homes, street corners, day care centers and rural byways.

Vermont Public Radio reported that a private foundation has now offered $150,000 for the purchase of new bookmobile. The grant is coming from the Manton Foundation, which was founded by the late Edwin Manton, who for many years headed insurance giant AIG.  It could take up to a year for a new bookmobile to get rolling, but Cobleigh Library librarian Cindy Karasinski says it'll be worth the wait.
