Richmond Police Department responded to a domestic assault on Kenyan Road in Richmond, Vt.

Police say, Iris French, 42, and her husband Bryan French, 24, were arguing for a bit when he left the home for a short period of time. When Mr. French returned a short while later, Mrs. French alleges that he put his hands around her neck and lifted her off the couch. Mr. French left the home, but returned a second time where he grabbed Mrs. French and put her down on the floor.

Mrs. French defended herself by slapping, a press release says, Mr. French struck her again before leaving the home.

Police say they located Mr. French at the home Wednesday and was taken into custody. Mr. French appeared in court Thursday. He was held at the Chittenden County Correctional Facility where bail was set at $5,000. The victim declined medical treatment.
