SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -

A Vermont inmate is accused of threatening his mother from jail.

Police say, Gordon R. Briggs Jr., 29, called his mother Marilyn Knox, 49, of West Windsor, Vt. by threatening her life when he was released from jail. He also threatened to burn down her home.

Briggs is currently incarcerated at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt. for 1st degree aggravated domestic assault for assaulting his ex-girlfriend back on April 8, 2012. A press release from April 8, says Briggs held a knife to his ex-girlfriend's throat and damaged her vehicle. He also had active conditions of release from Windsor County Superior Court from a disorderly conduct charge in Windsor, Vt.

A correctional officer reported the phone conversation to the Windsor County State's Attorney's Office who then contacted the Vermont State Police to conduct an investigation.

Briggs is due in court to answer these new charges in June.
