Police Arrest Woman Claiming She Was Run Off the Road and Family Members on Possession of Marijuana Charges

HIGHGATE, Vt. -

Vermont State Police responded to a call in Highgate, Vt. for a woman claiming she was run off the road near her home Tuesday, May 1.

Police say, when an officer arrived at the residence of Melissa Guttilla, 22, the officer was able to smell unburned Marijuana. Melissa tried to find the location where the crash occurred but was not able to. Eventually, police say, they were able to locate where Melissa crashed her vehicle and a damaged mailbox on Cook Road in Swanton, Vt.

After receiving a search warrant for Melissa's residence, police found 2 large marijuana plants, 3 smaller plants and over 90 juvenile plants. All of the plants were grown under artificial lights. 180 grams of process marijuana was also found.

Michael Guttilla, 53, was cited for cultivation of marijuana, Erika Guttilla, 25, for possession of marijuana, and Melissa for leaving the scene of a crash and possession of marijuana. They are all due in court at the end of June.
