Stamp Out Hunger

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermonters participated in a nation-wide effort to end hunger.
The annual Stamp Out Hunger drive relies on people to leave canned food in their mailbox, then letter carriers pick up the donations and deliver them to local food shelves.

Here at the Food Shelf in Winooski, dozens of working families rely on contributions from others.  It's estimated that one in six Americans are facing hunger.

"This is our biggest support that we get for the year and it really sustains us for a good number of months," Food Shelf Volunteer Susanna Jerger said.

Items like spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, canned meats and mayonnaise always seem to be the items that run out first.
