"There are a lot of great prizes and hope to raise a lot of money for Ty," says Calvin Belknap, resort manager.
Belknap says the event will include a golf tournament, BBQ, and silent auction. He says the resort has strong connections to Jenkins, who taught and coached at the Academy.
"Lauren, who is my daughter, spent a lot of time because Melissa was her basketball coach at the Academy. So she had a lot more to tell me about Melissa than I knew and certainly with the tragedy we wanted to find out as much as we could and do as much as we could," says Belknap.
The resort expects hundreds of people to come out here for the fundraiser, which could raise thousands of dollars to help Ty eventually pay for school.
Staff from the Academy also helped plan the event.
"We're trying to get back to a new norm," says Tammi Cady, St. Johnsbury Academy Director of Development.
Cady says many people here still struggle with the death of the popular teacher. But they have found a way to ease their pain.
"I think the community has really rallied around Ty. I think in a lot of ways the community looks at him as their own and the strength the community has put together has been amazing," says Cady.
The golf tournament is sold out. But there are still tickets for the BBQ and there is the silent auction of celebrity items with Luis Guzman as MC.
