Alright, to be honest, it was a soaker of a day. Wet weather from the get-go Tuesday, almost until the end. But, with each rainfall, we get farther out of the standing drought!
For months, we talked about the dry weather. A winter lacking snow, and an early spring lacking rainfall left much of our region in a minor to moderate drought. But, little by little we got bits of rain, which helped moisten up the ground.
The latest round of rain gave us a rather widespread half-inch to inch-and-a-half in most areas...
In the Burlington area, with nearly an inch and a quarter in the rain gauge, that set a new daily record for May 8th, but also pushed us much nearer to "normal". Precipitation so far this year is about 8.88", less than 1" away from the average amount expected through the date.
An update on the drought will likely show much improvement in the northeast when the next update is issued on Thursday by the Climate Prediction Center.
