Vermont Foodbank's Hunger Conference

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

One in seven Vermonters doesn't know how they will pay for their next meal.
According to the Vermont Foodbank, there's a 15% increase in demand, while supply is on the decline.

At the annual Hunger Conference in Burlington, a room full of people joined the conversation geared toward tackling the growing problem of hunger.
Out of the 280 food shelves in the state, 40% of the people who rely on them for their source of food, have jobs, but just aren't making ends meet.

"For every dollar that's donated to the Vermont Foodbank, we can provide six meals, which goes a lot further at the Foodbank than at a grocery store, but we're also asking people to donate their time, to donate food and funds to their local food shelves, to the Foodbank," Judy Stermer, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the Vermont Foodbank said.

Stermer added that 97,000 Vermonters rely on the 3SquaresVT program, formerly known as food-stamps.
