Vermont Budget Nears Agreement

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont lawmakers say they're nearing agreement on the state budget, but a miscellaneous tax bill remains in dispute as they work toward what legislative leaders say should be a Saturday adjournment for the year.

Among the sticking points on the tax bill is that the House wants to charge sales tax on software accessed on remote computers - the so-called cloud tax - while the Senate does not.

Meanwhile, lawmakers appear to have resolved their differences over school immunizations, with senators dropping their effort to eliminate the philosophical exemption that allows parents to opt not to have their kids vaccinated.

An impasse continues between House and Senate negotiators over allowing police access without a search warrant to a prescription drug database maintained by the Health Department.
