South Burlington Woman Admits to Stabbing, Changes Plea

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Vermont woman has admitted to stabbing another woman several times during a fight in South Burlington. Tina Cyr was in court Wednesday for a plea change. The 35-year old South Burlington woman had little to say, except one word: guilty.

Cyr has spent the last year claiming the stabbing was in self-defense, but she changed her story Wednesday.

Cyr admitted to stabbing Tiffany Johnson in March 2011. It's a crime the state argued happened after Johnson gave Cyr a ride to her home, which resulted in the two of them getting into a fight.

"During the scuffle the defendant stabbed Ms. Johnson in the neck and in the back. In doing so the defendant acted recklessly. As a result Ms. Johnson suffered serious bodily injury," Prosecutor Andrew Strauss said.

Cyr was originally charged with attempted first degree murder, but she didn't plead guilty to that charge. Instead she admitted to aggravated assault, which is a felony that requires less time in prison.

Sentencing will be held in three months.
