MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Governor Shumlin will allow the Tanning Bed Legislation, H.157, to become law, even though he does not approve it.

According to a press release, while Shumlin supports the public health principle behind the bill, he has concerns that it is not a realistic approach.

The bill would fine business owners caught allowing people younger than 18 to tan.

Governor Shumlin did not sign the bill.

Shumlin said in a statement that a more effective path would be consumer education of risk that allows parents to play the ultimate role in reducing teen tanning.
