ST. ALBANS, Vt. -
Police say she used a dead man's debit card...over the past three weeks. And Wednesday afternoon, the search for that woman ended.
The debit card belonged to Chris Davis- he's the 22 year old Swanton man who was found dead in a St. Albans swimming pool last week.
Police aren't releasing the woman's name quite yet, but this does raise more questions in a case that's captivated the community. "We continue to try to build a time-frame, to retrace the footsteps of the victim in the days and hours leading up to his death," St. Albans Police Chief Gary Taylor said.
Pictures were released to the media on the same day the woman in this picture, whose name has not been released, identified herself to police.
Investigators noticed the activity on the card during their search for Davis and they believe they know how she got the card, but don't believe she's responsible for the suspicious death. "We don't know the exact circumstances, but I suspect not," Chief Taylor said.
Police say this woman used Davis' debit card three times at Hannaford in Essex- the fourth, somewhere in St. Albans.
This case first started when Davis was reported missing by his mother April 9th- one week later, he was found in the community pool. Initially police thought Davis was somehow involved in a couple of robberies in St. Albans last month, they no longer think that's the case. "He was probably deceased by the time those robberies began," Taylor added.
What we still don't know is how the woman ended up with Davis' debit card, but Chief Taylor says "Any role she played here was after the fact."
