ROXBURY, Vt. -
Vermont State Police say an elderly Roxbury man has been killed in a house fire.
The blaze broke out on Vermont Route 12 at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters from several departments responded to the fire.
They say they were not able to enter the home because of heavy smoke and flames.
Authorities say 81-year-old Russell Holt was found dead in the basement. They say he became trapped because of the fire. He was the only person inside the home at the time.
State police say the cause of the fire is undetermined. Officials do not believe it to be suspicious.
